A2P 10DLC for GoHighLevel in the US, done without the horror stories
US carriers filter unregistered SMS by default. Here is the exact A2P 10DLC registration path we run for every GoHighLevel sub-account, with brand type, campaign vetting, and the three mistakes that kill a submission.
If you run GoHighLevel in the United States and have not registered A2P 10DLC, every text your workflows send is either throttled, silently dropped, or flagged as spam by the carrier. T-Mobile is the strictest. Verizon and AT&T are catching up fast. By mid 2026 even transactional appointment reminders need a registered campaign to reach the inbox reliably.
Here is the recipe we run on every US client sub-account at LogicsLevel. Flat fee, under a week in most cases, zero mystery.
What A2P 10DLC actually is
A2P stands for Application to Person. 10DLC stands for 10 Digit Long Code, which is the normal looking phone number your GoHighLevel account uses. Before 2023 you could buy a long code and start blasting. Now the four major US carriers require two things:
- A Brand, which identifies the legal entity sending the messages.
- A Campaign, which describes what the messages are for and how recipients opted in.
Both get registered through The Campaign Registry (TCR), the industry wide clearing house. GoHighLevel pipes your submission to TCR for you. You never log in to TCR directly.
The two paths inside GoHighLevel
There are two SMS backends to choose from. Pick one before you register, because switching after registration means a second fee.
LC Phone (LeadConnector). The default. Resold Twilio capacity, billed through HighLevel. Easy to set up, slightly higher per segment cost, no separate Twilio bill. We default new US sub-accounts to this unless the client sends more than 50,000 segments a month.
Direct Twilio. You bring your own Twilio sub-account and connect it in Settings. Lower per segment cost at volume, but you pay the Twilio A2P fees separately from the HighLevel ones. Worth it above about 50k segments a month, or if you already have a Twilio Messaging Service with other integrations attached.
For our volume analysis on when to switch to direct Twilio, see our n8n vs Zapier 2026 piece, which uses the same per segment math.
Brand registration, step by step
Inside the sub account go to Settings, Phone Numbers, Trust Center. Click Start Registration.
Pick the Brand type honestly. The options matter.
- Low Volume Standard. Under 2,000 segments per day. Faster vetting, cheaper, works for 90% of SMB clients. $4 one time, $2 a month.
- Standard. Over 2,000 segments per day. $44 one time plus whatever carrier fees apply, slower vetting.
- Sole Proprietor. US only, no EIN required. For true solo operators with a single number. Hard capped at 1,000 segments a day across the lifetime of the brand. Do not use this if you plan to grow.
The identity fields have to match the EIN record at the IRS or the state Secretary of State listing character for character. “LLC” versus “L.L.C.” will fail. The legal name on your W9 is the correct one. We pull it straight off the SS4 letter from the IRS before touching the form.
Brand vetting usually clears in under five minutes. If it kicks back as “unverified” the fastest fix is to call the IRS Business and Specialty Tax Line and request your SS4 confirmation letter be re emailed, then resubmit with the exact string on that letter.
Campaign vetting, where submissions actually die
A Brand that passes vetting is still useless until a Campaign is approved against it. This is the step that fails most often. Three mistakes we see weekly.
Mistake 1. Vague use case description. The field asks what the messages are for. “Marketing” is not an answer. “Appointment reminders and post service review requests for customers of ABC HVAC who booked online or by phone” is. TCR vetters read these by hand. Be specific.
Mistake 2. Sample messages without opt out language. Every sample has to include a Stop opt out. Every sample has to include your brand name. We paste in four samples that cover reminder, confirmation, follow up, and promotional. Each one ends with “Reply STOP to opt out.”
Mistake 3. Opt in mechanism that cannot be shown. TCR increasingly asks for a screenshot of the actual web form, a copy of the paper form, or a recording of the IVR prompt where the customer agreed to receive texts. “They gave us their number” is not consent. The form must have a checkbox or a sentence directly next to the submit button that mentions SMS, your brand, and message frequency.
If your website has a HighLevel contact form, add the required consent string under the phone field now, before you submit the campaign. We use this exact text:
By submitting this form you agree to receive SMS messages from [Brand Name] about your service request. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out. Reply HELP for help. Up to 4 messages per month.
Campaign vetting takes 3 to 10 business days in late 2026. We have seen it clear in under 48 hours when the samples and opt in evidence are tight. We have seen it bounce three times in a row when they are not.
Fees as of October 2026
Pay these once, pay them per month, pay them per segment. The GoHighLevel documentation lists them cleanly but here is the shape so you can quote a client without logging in.
- Brand registration, one time. $4 Low Volume, $44 Standard.
- Campaign registration, one time. $15.
- Campaign monthly fee. $1.50 to $10 depending on use case (mixed is highest).
- Carrier pass through fees per segment. Fractions of a cent, but they add up at volume.
Resellers vary. Our clients see the numbers above because we run them on direct TCR cost pass through. If a competing GHL agency is charging you $150 to “handle” registration, you are paying for form filling, not for TCR fees.
When registration is live
Three things change the day your campaign goes active.
First, deliverability jumps. Expect previously throttled numbers to clear 95% delivery on T-Mobile within an hour. Verizon and AT&T were less strict pre registration and will not jump much, but your spam flag rate on both drops noticeably.
Second, you can increase workflow throughput. Pre registration we rate limit outbound SMS to 1 per second per number. Post registration we lift that to the carrier published Trusted TPS, usually 10 to 100 per second depending on brand tier.
Third, you can finally stop using the GoHighLevel toll free workaround. Toll free numbers do not need A2P 10DLC but they get aggressively filtered for marketing and their deliverability on US consumer carriers is the worst of any option. If a client has been limping along on a toll free, we port their number to the newly registered campaign the same week.
The two week implementation plan we quote
For a new US client who has never registered we quote a two week window and almost always deliver inside one.
- Day 1. Pull SS4, verify EIN, confirm website opt in language, draft four sample messages.
- Day 2. Submit Brand. Submit Campaign.
- Day 3 to 7. Brand clears in minutes. Campaign enters vetting.
- Day 7 to 10. Campaign clears. Rebuild existing workflows against the new Messaging Service. Shift any live numbers over.
- Day 10. Live test. Send a workflow to five test numbers across the three major carriers. Confirm receipt within 30 seconds.
If you want this run for your sub account at fixed price with no monthly retainer, our pricing works the same way as the other migrations we quote. See why we do not do retainers for the reasoning. We hand you the keys and the campaign stays in your name.
New Zealand and Australia readers
The 10DLC regime is US only. If you operate in NZ or AU, the same deliverability pain exists for different reasons, and the fix is a different vendor. We covered the NZ side separately in the GoHighLevel New Zealand SMS problem. An AU piece is on the way. The short version is that you want a local long code via ClickSend or MessageMedia, not the HighLevel native path.
What to check before you call us
Pull your SS4 letter. Confirm the exact legal name. Confirm the EIN. Check that your website opt in language mentions SMS, your brand, and a frequency. If you can produce those four items in one email, we can submit your Brand the same day.
